Marita is an Accredited Family Law Specialist. She has practised exclusively in family law since 2001.
Highly experienced in both parenting and property matters, Marita has a particular interest and expertise in complex financial settlements.
She has substantial experience acting in matters involving complicated business structures, many with multiple trusts, companies and self-managed superannuation funds. A number of her more recent matters have included the sale of substantial businesses as part of the overall family law settlement.
Marita particularly enjoys the detective work involved in reviewing complex financial documents and in helping her clients unravel themselves or their spouse from companies, trusts and self-managed superannuation funds. She has a thorough understanding of business valuation and tax issues in family law.
Seeing herself foremost as a problem solver and negotiator, Marita takes a practical and realistic approach to even the most intractable disputes. She assists most of her clients to resolve matters before or at mediation. Where court proceedings are necessary, Marita is a tenacious and assertive advocate.

Marita is a past member of the Family Law Specialisation Advisory Committee of the Law Institute of Victoria. The committee sets examinations for, and assesses, lawyers seeking to gain recognition as Accredited Specialists in Family Law.
Marita is also a past member of the Relationships Australia Lawyers’ Panel. She particularly enjoys working with and mentoring other members of the Blackwood Family Lawyers team.
